"The Sound Of Cylons," or Battlestar Galactica By Simon And Garfunkel
According to Google, somebody did this one back in 1989, but I haven't heard a word about it since. A surprise, because it was too easy. I received Rob Balder's new CD "For Amusement Only" today; it had a song called "Cylons On The Screen" based on "Islands In The Stream." I started thinking out this one immediately.

"The Sound Of Cylons"
by Will "scifantasy" Frank
ttto: "The Sound Of Silence" by Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel

Hello toasters, my old friends
You've come to kill us all again
Because you got a message from your God
To make an artificial human bod
And the visions deep inside of Baltar's brain
He's insane
'Cause of the sound of Cylons.

And through the stars we fly alone
Because you blew up all our homes
And you shut down our computer nets,
But the Second War ain't over yet
On /Galactica/ we are going to fight back
And we'll attack
And stop the sound of Cylons.

And in the rag-tag fleet I saw
One hundred starships, maybe more
Starships fleeing to planets far
Starships jumping between the stars
And a battlestar to act as our home base
Because in space
You can't hear the sound of Cylons

"Fool" said I, "You do not know,"
"As my fatal cancer grows.
With my visions I can lead you
To our true home I can speed you."
But the planet below was green and bright.
Our new home
Out of sight of Cylons

So the people threw me out
And they settled on the ground
'Til a nuke went off with a flare
Telling everyone we were there
And the Cylons said, "Your world is now ours"
And we're gonna have to fight
'Cause it feels right
Silencing the sounds of Cylons.

This is really incredibly simple, and stupid, but it popped into my head about a month ago as I was wandering around one day:

The Cylon Hop
(with apologies to The Ramones. Especially the dead ones.)

There's no stoppin' the Cylons from hoppin'
The fleet's on the run from all the Cylon guns

Cylon! Cylon!

I'm gonna go for a whirl with my Cylon girl
My feet won't stop doin' the Cylon Hop

Cylon! Cylon!

1-2-3-4, Cylons wanna kill some more!
4-5-6-7, all good Cylons go to Heaven!

I link-surfed to your blog, and I have now spewed chai tea on my keyboard. Your song parodies are great. ^_^

Dare I ask what chain of links you followed? I'm just curious.

Erm... I was clicking on random people whose avatars caught my eye... I guess I clicked on a comment you left for 'rimrunner', since she seems to be our only mutual friend.

I found your lj through a comment you left in [livejournal.com profile] quietdeath's lj. This parody is great! I hope you don't mind, but I posted it in my lj (with credit and a link to you) so others can see. Good job!

Tripped over you on [livejournal.com profile] vvalkyri's lj and then spotted 'The Sounds of Cylons'. Have you recorded it yet? I want to hear that one! Also, is it available for others to record (as in, would you be offended)? I know a few filkers who might be interested if you didn't mind ... and who would cheerfully credit you.

Incidentally, I'm pretty good at recording studio software & hardware (or at least, the Smithsonian Folklife people thought so ;-), and I've run sound for a few large concerts), so if you need something remixed or adjusted and don't have the time/resources, let me know ...

That one I haven't recorded. Think I should? It'll have to wait until my new computer is fully set up...

I'd love to hear it recorded by others, but I'd even more so love to meet said others. If you're a filk-minded person in this area, then maybe you'll be at Conterpoint in June?
